Kayla and Dillon

Kayla and Dillon are a fun-loving sibling pair who play well together. They both love to help their foster carer with tasks such as shopping or watering the garden, and although Kayla can be a bossy big sister at times, Dillon takes it all in his stride!

Kayla and Dillon were placed into foster care when they were 2 and 1. Their birth mum struggled to bond with her children and gave them inconsistent care, and their birth father left not longer after Dillon’s birth. For a while they lived with their maternal grandparents, but they have their own age-related health struggles and felt they couldn’t raise the children themselves. Work was done to try to support their birth mum and other family connections have been explored, but ultimately a plan of adoption has been decided for the siblings. During the period they have been in foster care the siblings have had regular family contact sessions with their grandparents.

Kayla is settled at nursery and is doing well in meeting her milestones. She likes books and imaginative play, and is beginning to show interest in trying to write her name. Kayla can show difficult behaviours at times especially with other children at nursery, but she has a strong attachment to her foster carer, brother and grandparents.

Dillon is the quieter of the two siblings, and he will follow his sister around, seeking her out at nursery for cuddles during the day. He enjoys sensory play such as playdough or water play, and he is currently dinosaur-mad and loves to look at books with them in. He is under support from Speech and Language Therapists as he is slightly behind in his words, but his love of dinos is helping and he is trying to say “T-rex”!

We are looking for a two-parent family who can celebrate these children for their differences but also their strong sibling bond. It will be important for Kayla and Dillon to maintain a relationship with their maternal grandparents who have always been a big part of their lives.
