Partner (step-parent) adoptions
If you are considering adopting your partner's child, please complete the enquiry form below.
Once we receive your enquiry, we will send you an information sheet explaining the partner adoption process, including what is involved in an assessment, timescales, and the legal steps required.
Before completing the form, please read the following eligibility criteria:
As per agency policy, you must have lived with the child and your partner as a family for at least two years.
The child must be under 18 years of age. It is not possible to adopt someone who has already reached their 18th birthday.
You must live in one of our five local authority areas: Cheshire East, Manchester, Salford, Stockport or Trafford.
Important Information
As an adoption service, our primary responsibility is to find permanent families for children in care who require adoption. As a result, we need to prioritise assessments for prospective adopters for children waiting for families. There is currently a waiting list of more than six months for partner adoption assessments. We appreciate your patience and understanding and will discuss current timescales with you once your enquiry has been received.
